International Socialists (IS) Factional Struggle in Zimbabwe

Former ISOZ Leader Prosecutes Members in Bourgeois Court

In the wake of a split in the ISO of Zimbabwe (ISOZ), the deposed former leader of the ISOZ, Munyaradzi Gwisai, filed charges in the bourgeois court system leading to the imprisonment of several ISOZ members belonging to the majority faction, and the confiscation by the state police of sensitive political documents. HWRS joins the other IFLT member organizations in condemning this unprincipled action by Gwisai.

Update: As reported by WIVL, faced with overwhelming international pressure, including a declaration of support from the miners’ union in Bolivia, Gwisai ultimately withdrew the charges, and the jailed comrades were released. This story is covered in the following posts on Redrave, a blog maintained by one of the leading comrades of the Communist Workers Group in New Zealand.

For a general critique of the IS method, as exemplified by the recent history of its Zimbabwe section, see Zimbabwe: The revolution betrayed - drawing the lessons, published by WIVL on May 24, 2009 and reproduced on Redrave.
